A good fence line starts with proper posts, set plumb and concreted in. I run the string line first so the whole fence is straight, then work along the run — old fence out, new fence in, no gaps at the bottom and no leaning panels.

Timing: A typical rear garden run of 10–15m is done in 1–2 working days plus setting time for concrete.
Frequently asked questions
- Concrete lasts much longer, especially in wet ground. Timber is cheaper but will rot at the base in 5–10 years. I recommend concrete on most jobs.
